Firstly: yes, you will lose the ability to upgrade to a DP version.

More precisely: You can upgrade, but lose features and data thereafter.

Why forking away? ... due to personal reasons I resorted to modify the 1.1.1 beta to suit my needs... removing limiters that cap i.e. the levels and other stuff to make the game more customizable with little effort, and also several fixes that were submitted to DP but not done or discussed and rejected.

It should be fixed, but it won't be easy and it won't be fast. If you want
to help - wonderful. But keep in mind that it will take months of wading
through the ugliest code we have in the tree. If you've got a weak stomach -
stay out. I've been there and it's not a nice place.

=) thanks.

I will, most likely, make beta releases with different version numbers to it will be upgradeable when I make modifications.

There are still issues to fix, and more.
